“Don’t bring a knife to a gun fight.” So states the Proverb. We see that Proverb writ large in the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. Indiana Jones races through a middle eastern village, but then a sword master confronts him. What’s Indiana going to do? How could he possibly defeat this sword wielding foe? Indiana pulls out his gone and shoots. Fight over.
A few years ago I purchased some pants. But these weren’t just any pants. A new company made these pants and included them in their “Quarter Century” collection. The company guaranteed the pants would last 25 years! AND if something happened to them, the company would repair them for free. I was set.
On December 20th, 1986, the Los Angeles Times ran an article with this title: “72% Believe They Will Go to Heaven, Not Sure About Friends.”
Most people want to improve their health. So, they try a new exercise program, or they go on (another!) diet, or they incorporate breathing techniques into their life.
The bell rang and I was exhausted. I had been wrestling. Three periods of two minutes don’t sound like much. But if you’ve ever wrestled, then you know how demanding it is.
What does a corpse need? New life. Although all of us look alive, the Bible would print “dead” on our name tag.

Our world is unstable. The news recounts devastating earthquakes, political unrest, and deadly diseases. We feel afraid. We worry. We don’t know what tomorrow might bring.
What will fulfill us? What brings true life? Some people think success will fulfill us. But then we hear celebrities warning us about the empty promises of success.
How do I change? Perhaps you want to change. Maybe the extra weight from college has lodged itself in your belly and will not go away. Maybe you’ve tried changing, but nothing happened.
