Wrestling With Death

Wrestling with Death

The bell rang and I was exhausted. I had been wrestling. Three periods of two minutes don’t sound like much. But if you’ve ever wrestled, then you know how demanding it is. So, people don’t wrestle, it’s too hard.

Most people avoid facing death for the same reason. Facing death would exhaust us. So, we ignore death. We minimize death. We distract ourselves with social media. But we must face death. Every one of us will die. God hasn’t guaranteed us tomorrow.

Death transports us to God himself. What will you find there? Hebrews 9:27 reminds us, “And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.” What judgment will God render for you? Are you ready to meet God?

Imagine you did die today. And you stood before God. Then God asked you, “Why should I let you into my Heaven?” What would you say?

Would you say, “I’ve been a good husband.” Or “I’ve been a good mother.” Or “I’ve tried really hard to obey you.”

If you answer that question in the first person, you’ve gone wrong. They ONLY answer starts in the third person. Because of HIM! Because HE died for me. JESUS is the only reason I’ll make it!

Look at the Hebrews 9:28, “so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.”

Have you trusted in Christ alone for salvation? Or are you still hoping that your resume, your good works, or your life will save you? If you are, that’s like hoping a spider web will stop a falling rock. You’ll find NO hope in yourself. You’ll only find it in Christ!
